Found this on youtube

Spanish tourniquet

I'd never seen one in use, thought I'd post.

I love low-tech stuff that works, like the tape method.

Pat, I use one for every plate joint. Backs, Tops, archtops. I'm like you in that I love simple stuff that gets teh job done well.
I do mine slightly differently: I don't tie off each wedge as I think it works better as a whole with them all as one unit.

Thanks Pat. I've never seen the actual process myself. With only 3 flat boards and 3 wedges, can't get much simpler or take up much space. As a grumpy old luthier use to say, KISS.

Pepe is a member over on the MIMF.

I've never heard of pounding the wedges in like that. I like Paul just run the entire wrap (I have 4 wedge points) and than put the wedges in.

I like this method the most of which I've tried, but that's my own personal taste.

Lots of good ways to join the plates.

Wax paper or something on the wood pieces.

I used two sided tape and left the paper on the one side. Heck even packing tape would do the trick.

Thanks Pat. It's always easier to understand when somebody shows you how to do it.

That was a good link.  That guy can really move.  I don't think I could move that fast if my buns were on fire.  It was like the top was pretty well stuck before any pressure was applied.

any time one uses wood around glue it behooves you to remember that wax is your friend. well waxed wood prevents glue from sticking and any traces are easily removed with naphta. but one caveat; always make sure the wax used is free of silicone. ost good paste waxes fill the bill are avialable from hardwares, woodworking stores, etc.

Paul, I'm with you there, letting the forces equalize among all the wedges.

You're all most welcome.
